My Town
By Anthony G

My town is hurting badly,
Throughout it segregation has spread sadly.
Signs are posted everywhere,
Blacks and or whites are welcomed here.

Soldiers preparing for the war,
Training squadrons waiting to be informed.
Seeing soldiers marching in and out,
Wondering how long they will be gone.

We work hard in the cotton field,
To make sure we can provide a meal.
This job is hard and tiring work,
There must be a better job that would appeal.

The local men hang out at the Hotel Clark,
It has the best service in town when you need a snooze.
The Rex Billiard Hall for colored,
May be the place to get your local news.

The Lunch Room serves both black and white,
It looks like they are doing what is right.
How long will it take for the rest of the town,
To end the war and segregation fight?
